A heritage letter...
Paul Ritter Vitezovic is an important figure of Croatian national history. He was a Habsburg-Croatian polymath, a historian, linguist, publisher, poet, political theorist, diplomat, printmaker, draughtsman, cartographer and writer.
In the beginning of the 18th century, when the Academia Illyrica was founded in Split, for which its leader Ivan Petar Marchi said that he could not see a better way to "cultivate and shape our language", and that in the city "where the most excellent sermons are spoken", Pavao Ritter Vitezović was also looking forward to that Split academy and greeted him with a commemorative song, as he shared the same passion with Ivan Petar, about the liberation of the South Slavs from the Turks.
